About the book: This book on Professor Sumiti Kumar Chatterji, titled ‘Suniti Kumar Chatterji on Indian Languages’ is a commemoration volume on the occasion of the centenary of the Origin and Development of the Bengali Language (ODBL). Many members of the Society stepped forward to contribute their scholarly research articles. Their aim was to produce a commemoration volume containing articles on Professor Chatterji’s research and intellectual contributions. With deep respect and academic gratitude, the members resolved to compile this volume. Even after a century, ODBL remains a landmark not only in the study of Indo-Aryan Linguistics, but also in the broader linguistic scholarship of the Indian Sub-continent.

About the Book: Initiative has been taken to compile this book titled - A Fiesta of Fifty Years of Indo-Bangladesh Relations: Assessing the Varied Dynamics of Opportunities and Challenges, to place in record all the meticulously crafted thoughts and ideas of eminent analysts of both India and Bangladesh, and also in-depth views of few research scholars which they put forth during a two-days long webinar (16th -17th February, 2023) organised by Kolkata Society for Asian Studies (KSAS) to commemorate fifty years of Indo-Bangladesh relations. About the Book: This is an introduction to a volume of articles which address the contribution of some of the seminal thinkers and actors in the Bengal Renaissance, so called, in the 19th and 20th centuries. The volume is illustrative and not exhaustive and only provides a window into the life and work of a few representatives, who bestrode the stage of history. It provides a glimpse of the all inclusive humanism transcending exclusive boundaries of nationalism or patriotism, which inspired great adventures in artistic, literary, scientific and philosophical speculation and exertion. It describes how both men and women embodied this resurgence by combating discrimination on the ground of religion, caste, class, sect, gender, geographical or national boundaries; by fighting for physical, moral, spiritual liberation; by providing personal examples of heroic self sacrifice; and, by building bridges between tradition and modernity, through analysis and synthesis. It demonstrates the unique manner in which these luminaries set an example by combining the best in both East and West, instead of denigrating or discarding one or the other. Thereby, they provided a model for all embracing humanism which remains to be followed up to protect Bengal, and through Bengal, India and the world, from moral and spiritual malaise and degradation, inviting extinction.

A new publication of Kolkata Society for Asian Studies is co-published by Sharada Publication. This book is the outcome of the workshop organized by Kolkata Society for Asian Studies, Archeological Survey of India (Eastern Regional Centre) and ICSSR (ER) held at Currency Building Kolkata in March 2016.
