Kolkata Society for Asian Studies (KSAS) organized an international Webinar on Women's Dialect

Society is the wave of social relationship and language is the tool for thought; but the way of expressing is not the same even in the same language also. Different social levels differ sharply. The prolific research field of social functions and significance of speech is now designated sociolinguistics. The language of women is also a part of sociolinguistics , their way of expressing thoughts, selection of word, sentence construction, language influenced by taboo - totem – magic - etc. make a separate era which are called women dialect, sex dialect, gender dialect, female speech etc. Auto Jespersen, Edward Sapir, M. Han, J. L. Fischer, J. A. Fishman, Merry Hass, F. Ekka, Robin Lakoff, M. R. Key, Jenifer Coats and many more linguists add many important facts on this matter. Nowadays women’s dialect and the change of women’s dialect is a very serious topic of research to discover our society from a gender angle.
