About Us

Kolkata Society for Asian Studies (KSAS) was founded on 7th December 2012 with a view to explore the possibilities of the societal development of the Asian countries with special reference to India.

The organization views the developmental activities of the Asian communities and societies by concentrating on different disciplines of social sciences like Archaeology, Anthropology (Physical, Social and Cultural), Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies, Economics, Education, Folklore and Culture, Gender Studies, History, International Relations, Linguistics, Museology, Sociology and others. Chinese Studies in relation to Indology is viewed emphatically. The research programs of the society integrally serve the interest of the nation in particular and of the humanity at large.
 
As stated in the memorandum, Kolkata Society for Asian Studies (KSAS) as an academic institution aims:
  • to carry out research programs for planning and social welfare
  • to develop and promote activities like lectures, discussions, seminars, field visits, film show, and cultural programs for the dissemination of knowledge
  • to undertake field investigations in the areas of Archaeology, Anthropology, Folklore and Culture, Gender Studies, Linguistics, etc. for understanding the societal issues of the grass root level
  • to promote and encourage advancement in literary, cultural, historical and methodical education throughout India and abroad
  • to explore the possibilities in the fields of Indology, Sinology, South-East Asian Studies in order to strengthen the bilateral relations with the neighbouring countries of India
  • to remain in touch with other similar Association or Societies in other parts of India and abroad for exchange of views
  • to collaborate with the disciplines like Computer Science and Information Technology to enhance the applied area of the whole developmental program.
